Created by Mila Tanya Griebel in conjunction with Hazon’s Shmita Prizes, this ritual candle holder and art piece embodies the idea of shmita as a time not just for rest, but for an additional mode of renewal: change. Seven silver candle holders correspond to the seven days of the week, as well as the seven years of the shmita cycle. The seventh candle is held apart— a reminder to pause from time to time, make space for something different, and remember that “a change is as good as a rest.”
